Destiny is the thirteenth studio album released by American band the Jacksons recorded at Dawnbreaker Studios – San Fernando, California. It was released in 1978 on Epic Records. The album would eventually sell over four million copies worldwide, two million in America during its initial run and another two million worldwide. The album marked the first time in the band's career in which they had complete artistic control, and was also the first album produced by the brothers.

The Jackson 5 (also spelled The Jackson Five, sometimes stylized The Jackson 5ive), later known as The Jacksons, were an American popular music family group. Formed in Gary, Indiana by Joe Jackson in 1964, the group originally included his five sons Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael. Originally Marlon and Michael played backup musician roles in the group until 1966 when Michael began sharing lead vocals with Jermaine. Professionally active since 1968, they signed with Motown Records in 1969. They became the first act in recording history to have their first four singles reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100, which included "I Want You Back", "ABC", "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There", and were one of the biggest pop music acts of the early seventies.

Significantly, they were one of the first black teen idols to appeal equally to white audiences, thanks partially to the successful promotional relations skills of Motown Records CEO Berry Gordy. After leaving Motown for CBS Records in 1976, the group changed their name to the Jacksons and released six records under the Epic label, scoring several hits such as "Enjoy Yourself", "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" and "Can You Feel It". Michael and Marlon Jackson left the group shortly after the release of the Victory album and tour in 1984 and the group sporadically continued recording until the release of 2300 Jackson Street in 1989. All six Jackson brothers briefly reunited for Michael's 30th anniversary special in 2001. Following Michael's death in June 2009, his four elder brothers reunited for their 2012 Unity Tour.
